ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Electrical Safety Disclaimer

Electrical calculators can support preliminary understanding, but they do not produce a permit-ready design or establish that an installation is safe or code-compliant.

Regional standards

Electrical requirements differ between the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and individual national or local jurisdictions. A globally valid formula does not replace the code adopted at the installation location.

Wire-size boundary

The US mode uses a limited AWG 60°C planning table with approximate conductor resistance. The IEC/UK–EU metric mode selects a common mm² cross-section for resistive voltage drop only and does not reproduce copyrighted ampacity tables. Neither mode implements the full NEC, IEC 60364, BS 7671, DIN VDE, NF C 15-100, CEC, or local amendments.

  • It does not fully model insulation rating, terminal rating, ambient temperature, bundling, installation method, raceway fill, reactance, harmonics, motors, continuous loads, fault current, protective-device coordination, or every voltage-drop rule.
  • At the July 26, 2026 review, the UK is in the published BS 7671:2018+A3:2024 / A4:2026 transition period through October 15, 2026; users must confirm which edition is accepted for their work and location.

Professional verification

A qualified electrician or electrical engineer must select equipment and conductors, apply required correction factors, verify protection and fault conditions, and inspect the actual installation.

Personal safety

  • De-energize and verify before work where legally and technically appropriate.
  • Follow equipment instructions, lockout/tagout procedures, permits, and local law.
  • Do not work on energized systems unless properly qualified, equipped, and authorized.
